CMP instructs more than 50 rifle and pistol students during their Marksmanship 101 courses in Illinois

BONFIELD, Ill. – During the beautiful weekend of October 1-2, 2022, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) held its 101st Rifle and Pistol Marksmanship Courses at the Illinois State Rifle Association in Bonfield, IL.

“The Illinois State Rifle Association is a fantastic host, and we’ve been told we’re always welcome there!” said Amy Cantu, CMP competitions and programs associate who manages the Marksmanship 101 program.

Held across the country throughout the year, the October session included a Pistol Marksmanship Course 101, the first of its kind at the Illinois location. A group of 30 people attended the training, led by CMP instructors Jim Henderson and Larry Grace.

CMP staff members helped facilitate training in the classroom and on the shooting range, using CMP’s line of outdoor electronic targets.

At Rifle, 23 students were trained by instructors Danny Arnold and Dean Bates. The pair also ran a Range Safety Officer Course, which is helping to improve the application of range safety during CMP sponsored and sanctioned competitions, with a total of 16 attendees.

The CMP was also fortunate to utilize the assistance of talented members of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit who again provided exceptional hands-on instruction and valuable knowledge for participants in the 101 Rifle and Pistol Marksmanship Courses during the trip to Illinois.

In the accompanying Excellence-In-Competition (EIC) rifle and pistol matches, each saw two competitors earn introductory points (4 points each). EIC points earned are applied toward the total of 30 required to receive the Distinguished Rifleman badge, the highest individual award authorized by the US government for excellence in competitive marksmanship. See the results at https://ct.thecmp.org/app/v1/index.php?do=match&task=edit&tab=results&match=22445.

The US Army Marksmanship Unit was on hand to assist with instruction in both rifle and pistol.

The next Marksmanship 101 Courses will be held on November 14 (Rifle) and November 15 (Pistol) during the annual Talladega 600 event at CMP’s Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama. Talladega training will be the last of 2022 but will return in March at the Western CMP Games in Arizona.

About CMP Marksmanship 101 courses:

CMP Marksmanship 101 courses are designed to train individuals in the essentials of the rifle or pistol and the basics of competition in a closely supervised environment. Utilizing the talents of qualified CMP staff and world-class instructors, participants learn through classroom discussions and hands-on training on the shooting range. Near the conclusion of each course, students apply everything they’ve learned in an official EIC match, shot under the close supervision of down-line mentors.

Courses are designed to accommodate those familiar with marksmanship as well as those completely new to the sport, so no prior experience is required. Rifles and ammunition are provided by the CMP. Shooter gear is welcome including jackets, gloves, a sling at the event, while ear and eye protection is required during actual shooting.

For more information on Marksmanship 101 Classes or to register, visit the CMP website at https://thecmp.org/training-tech/marksmanship-101/. Questions about Marksmanship 101 can be directed to Amy Cantú at 419-635-2141, ext. 602, or [email protected].

The coveted short-barreled Colt Python

Unveiled in January 2022, the new 3-inch Python looks just like the original revolvers, but that’s where the similarities end. Beneath all the beauty, Colt made several improvements that significantly improved the functionality and finish of this legendary revolver.

Colt’s newly redesigned action, using nine fewer parts, for a smoother, beefier action. The new crossbow action is smooth, repeatable, and varies little from cylinder to cylinder compared to the old Python. Pythons are single and double action pistols with a spur hammer. The silky smooth trigger pull on a Colt Python is second to none and is part of why these premium revolvers have such outstanding accuracy. In addition to its performance, the new Python packs more steel into the frame, so feeding the Python a steady diet of hot magnum loads is no problem.

Like all new Colt Pythons, the 3-inch barreled version is chambered for the mighty 357 magnum and features a 6-round cylinder. Its semi-gloss stainless steel finished body and barrel contrast with the stunning walnut grips. The shape of the hilt, deep checkerboard pattern and inlaid gold Colt logo are reminiscent of the classic. Its ribbed top strap and full-length bottom handle are unchanged from the original.

Plus, the ergonomics of the handle are more precise, so shooters won’t have to pull out their hand files. Colt also designed this grip to fit older Python grips, which is great for collectors. The user-interchangeable red ramp front sight allows the consumer to change sights without the need to seek out a gunsmith, as with the Pythons of yesteryear. Its upper strap is more robust, with 30% more surface area than the original.

Colt Pythons are always fun to photograph, but a peppy load on the 3-inch model promises to bring an even bigger smile to everyone’s face. The classic look and modern enhancements of the compact 3-inch model guarantee a lifetime of photographic pleasure. So whether it’s for self-defense, enjoyment at the shooting range, or filling a void in a firearms collection, the Colt Python 3-in is worth a closer look.

ESCORT BTS Bullpup Series Shotguns are built to last

The ESCORT® BTS Bullpup offers all the advantages of the VTS series shotguns in a more compact portable package. This next generation shotgun is available in 12 gauge or .410 gauge and is offered in black or FDE Cerakote. Using the same gas piston system as the other VTS shotguns, the BTS Bullpup is slimmer, with smaller dimensions, making it more agile to and from the shoulder. Great for close quarters action.

Rugged polymer lower receiver doubles as a foregrip, with soft rubber inlays for improved handling. The synthetic barrel cover features Hatsan’s patented ThermoDefend technology that absorbs and dissipates heat while containing the gas operating system. An alloy-lined DuraDefend magazine enhances durability against extended use.

Recoil control is distributed between a soft rubber butt plate and a long recoil spring. The reversible charging handle offers the ability for ambidextrous operation. The soft rubber pistol grip is removable and can be swapped out for one of the many aftermarket options to suit each user. The one-piece carry handle sight can be replaced with the included flip-up sights for a lower profile or when using mounted optics. Picatinny rails are also located on either side of the handguard to accommodate a variety of accessories.

12-gauge models feature an 18-inch barrel with removable chokes, including an extended barrel-bore choke brake that helps tame recoil with heavy shots or bullets. Complete and upgraded cylinder flush mount chokes are also included, with additional options available from HatsanUSA. Each gun ships with two 5-round magazines, but an optional 2-round magazine is also available. The gun is chambered to accept 2¾” and 3″ projectiles and will alternate between them without the shooter requiring external adjustments.

.410 models feature a 20” barrel with a fixed barrel choke, suitable for both shots and slugs. This shotgun is easy to handle and offers the same recoil absorbing characteristics as larger caliber models. The BTS ships with two 5-round magazines, but there is also an optional low-capacity magazine that holds three rounds. Gas operation works similarly, both standard and magnum loads run smoothly and reliably without the need for external adjustments.

As with all ESCORT shotguns, the barrels are tested at the factory to ensure quality and durability. Hard chrome and/or Cerakote coatings look great and are built to withstand the harshest conditions. HatsanUSA offers a 5-year limited warranty on all ESCORT firearms.

A firearms-friendly payment gateway that integrates with BigCommerce and GunBroker now brought to you by Blue Payment Agency of Windham, Maine

FFL dealers who use both BigCommerce and GunBroker to sell online can now use Blue Payment Agency’s firearms payment gateway setup and support program to streamline their credit card processing.

Many FFL dealers who sell online, and ship only to other federally authorized dealers, use both the GunBroker auction website and their own BigCommerce website to reach more firearms customers. Blue Payment Agency’s BigCommerce/GunBroker FFL payment processing allows these merchants to use one account to process credit card sales online. This benefits FFL dealers by providing an affordable payment processing, integration, approval and application reporting system.

Blue Payment Agency requires all FFL dealers, who process payments online, to ship their firearms to other federally licensed dealers. In this way, a full background check can be performed on all buyers using the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

Blue Payment Agency has designed an FFL payment program that streamlines the entire process for multi-platform e-commerce gun dealers. Blue Payment Agency’s BigCommerce/GunBroker FFL payment program helps automate approvals, and its trained staff will help FFL dealers integrate their payment processing into both the auction page and e-commerce website.

Alex Roy, who is the founder and president of Blue Payment Agency, explains it this way: “BigCommerce FFL distributors who also use GunBroker need a simple way to process credit cards, track earnings online, and process any refunds. credit card without using multiple payments. gateway logins and multiple merchant accounts. Our established e-commerce payment gateway program allows dealers to view and manage all of their online sales, whether through an auction website like GunBroker or a traditional e-commerce website like those hosted by BigCommerce, all In one single place”.

According to Blue Payment Agency, the ability to use one payment processing system for both BigCommerce and GunBroker not only streamlines reporting, but also reduces costs by eliminating redundant merchant accounts and payment gateway fees. Resellers no longer need to pay for separate GunBroker and BigCommerce merchant accounts and payment gateways. In addition to reduced costs, FFLs no longer have to deal with multiple payment gateway logins and multiple payment processing applications.

Blue Payment Agency believes that with a simplified and affordable way to accept credit cards for online purchases and with their support staff behind them, it increases an FFL dealer’s ability to increase their auction and e-commerce sales. Because FFLs perform the essential background check required by law on every Internet firearms sale, many feel that they contribute greatly to the stability and reputation of the Second Amendment community as a whole.

When a Blue Payment Agency customer sells a gun online, the buyer must select a local federal firearms licensee to ship the gun to. The firearm must be safely transferred to the local dealer, who must then perform the required NICS check before the firearm is delivered to the online buyer.

Alex Roy emphasizes that his company cares about the Second Amendment and the American community of federally licensed dealers. He is convinced that simplifying the application, approval, integration, reporting and support for online FFLs using both an auction website and an e-commerce site is an important service that his company plans to continue indefinitely.

Details about Blue Payment Agency’s online firearms credit card processing program for GunBroker and BigCommerce can be found on their dedicated FFL page at https://bluepaymentagency.com/bigcommerce-payment-gateways-for- firearms/.
