Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the 1st Fujairah Mountain Shooting Championships (FMSC) will kick off on Monday, February 6, with 444 competitors from 40 countries around the world.
Taking place in the midst of Wadi Ghub, in the magnificent Dibba Mountain area of Fujairah, the challenging, highly decorated competition is the first skeet shooting sports championship of its kind in the region, with cash and in-kind prizes in excess of million dirhams.
The championship, which concludes on February 11, 2023, will include 3 days of training, with an opening ceremony scheduled for February 8. The main tournament will take place on the remaining 3 days and the winners will be announced during the closing ceremony. .
World Champion Clay Shooter George Digweed MBE has designed 8 course layouts to test all skill levels, giving competitors a novel all-mountain shooting experience. The international championship has a special system that simulates the real life hunting experience, using 100% natural and ecological clay targets, suitable for use by different age groups.
Commenting on the highly anticipated event, Saif Al Zahmi, Championship Director, said: “The championship includes four different categories – Open, Women’s, Junior and Senior – and has attracted key professional competitors from around the world, while also allows beginners and hobbyists to participate in the exciting games. It marks an important opportunity to shed light on mountain sports in the region and establish Fujairah as a key destination for hosting quality sporting events and competitions.”
