Grab a bite at day five of Magic: The Gathering’s Unfinity previews.
The weekend is always the quiet time for the preliminary seasons of Magic: The Gathering, and Unfinity is no exception. Gone are the exciting days of revealing 20+ cards to pore over, today we’re down to just eight. However, that doesn’t mean those eight are bad; in fact, there is some really interesting stuff going on here.
In day five of Unfinity previews, we’ve got a Squirrel token generator for Eternal decks, the ability to still trigger abilities, and even a card that gets better the more you’re willing to eat. Here’s everything revealed in day five of the Unfinity spoilers.
Us'[ve only got three Eternal-legal cards today, and none of them are going to be breaking any formats. Squirrel Squatters pumping out Squirrel tokens each turn you roll for an Attraction is great, allowing you to make potentially up to ten tokens every turn. There’s also Lineprancers, which gives you two tickets for just two mana and then can be used as way to force your opponent’s creatures into dying in combat.
Dee Kay, Finder of the Lost is going to be a great commander for any deck that wants to roll lots of six-sided dice, which, while limited thanks to black-border Magic only rarely caring about d6s, is bound to become more popular thanks to all the support Unfinity gives the archetype.
|Squirrel Squatters||Three generic, two green creature – Squirrel – 4/4:
When Squirrel Squatters enters the battlefield, open an Attraction. (Put the top card of your Attraction deck onto the battlefield.)
Whenever Squirrel Squatters attacks, create a 1/1 green Squirrel creature token that’s tapped and attacking for each Attraction you’ve visited this turn.
|Lineprancers||One generic, one green creature – Centaur Performer – 2/2:
When Lineprancers enters the battlefield, you get two tickets, then you may put a power and toughness sticker on a creature you own.
Three generic, one green: Target creature you don’t control blocks target creature you control with a power and toughness sticker on it other than Lineprancers this turn if able.
|Dee Kay, Finder of the Lost||One generic, one blue, one black legendary creature – Zombie Employee – 1/4:
When Dee Kay, Finder of the Lost enters the battlefield, open an Attraction.
Whenever you roll a two, each opponent loses one life and you gain one life.
Whenever you roll a four, you may tap or untap target artifact or creature.
Whenever you roll a six, return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand.
For today’s Acorn cards, we have the following two members of Myra’s Marvels, with Myra Wonders Fluros being a powerful artifact commander who wants you to play a lot of spells with the same mana value. There’s also Myra’s Wonderland Nocturnewhich allows you to turn almost any keyword into a viable theme for a deck, as long as it is longer than five letters.
cake eating contest it’s absolutely wild, requiring you to either sacrifice food tokens (something this set doesn’t produce in large numbers so far) or eat a mouthful of real food. Getting people to eat on the table at local game stores is dangerous, but there’s nothing in the rules about chewing gum while playing to meet the requirement.
Finally, easy trigger is another Acorn card that feels more like a test for things to come. At the moment, the rules really only allow copying a triggered ability for you, whereas this just takes it away from your opponent and gives it to you. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this type of spell being able to make the jump to the black border in some form later on.
|Myra Wonders Fluros||Two generic and two blue legendary creatures – Merfolk Performer – 3/4:
When Fluros of Myra’s Marvels enters the battlefield, choose a number greater than zero.
Whenever you cast a spell with power, toughness, or loyalty equal to the chosen number, target artifact or creature becomes an artifact creature with base power and toughness X/X until end of turn, where X is the chosen number. .
|Myra’s Wonderland Nocturne||Two generic and two blue legendary creatures – Vampire Performer – 2/2:
When Nocturne of Myra’s Marvels enters the battlefield, choose a word with five or more letters.
Each time you cast a spell with the chosen word in its rules text, you draw a card and lose two life.
|easy trigger||A generic, a red instant:
Choose a triggered ability of target permanent. It goes off. You control that ability.
|Chotchke’s Elemental||A green creature – Elemental – 1/1:
Whenever you create a token or put a counter on a sticker of another permanent, put a trinket counter on Elemental Tchotchke. Use a unique item that fits completely on Tchotchke Elemental for each trinket counter.
Elemental Tchotchke gets +1/+1 for each trinket counter on it.
|cake eating contest||FOUR generic witchcraft, one green:
As an additional cost to cast this spell, goggle X. (Each time you gobble, take a bite of food or sacrifice a food token.)
Each of X target creatures you control gets +2/+2 and gains trample until end of turn.
