Job Description: Director of Development, Action Shooting, Scholastic Action Shooting Program, Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is seeking a highly motivated individual to assume the position of Director of Development for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The successful candidate will be responsible for growing and supporting SASP member teams.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization and is the national leader in youth development shooting sports programs. Using a combination of education and athletics, our mission is to enhance the personal growth and development of student athletes across the country through shooting sports.

Through a variety of fun team shooting events in both our Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) and Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), we provide student-athletes from elementary school through college with a supportive environment where Shooting sports serve as catalysts for teaching life lessons and skills that emphasize positive character traits and citizenship values. Throughout all training, practices and competitions, we instill in our participants a commitment to safe firearms handling, teamwork and leadership.

Work description

Responsible for the growth of program members by recruiting new teams and retaining existing programs. Work with and develop Regional Field Representatives (RFRs) and State Advisors to grow SSSF action shooting sports in a community way. Provide training, key information, and resources for RFR, State Advisors, and Trainers within the respective region. Find and develop state advisors and other key groups in the states who can positively influence and grow local member teams and support coaches on a daily basis.

Provide support to program contests. Consult with RFR, state advisors, and coaches as necessary to ensure successful leagues, local games, regional games, and state games. Recruit local volunteer Match Managers (MDs) for other regional and state championship events and work closely with volunteer MDs to ensure events are run to SSSF standards. Make sure teams are registered and use the SSSF SHOT data system to manage athletes and events. Serve as on-site MD and/or assistant MD for all events nationwide and some regional events as needed.

Develop leads and provide support for program fundraising efforts. Assist the National Director in planning and conducting fundraisers such as raffles, banquets, etc. that benefit local teams and the national organization. Make sure all national fundraising complies with local, state, and national regulations. Assist the National Director in requesting sponsorship from the industry and others at the national level.

Work closely with the National Director to develop the annual program budget and monitor program income and expenses against the budget.

Assist in the instruction of SASP Trainers courses and Training of Trainers for Trainers courses.

desired qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a shooting coach and/or state assessor
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership position managing volunteers
  • More than 2 years of experience in the successful management of shooting competitions.
  • Previous experience in fundraising.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer coach of shooting sports or other youth sports
  • Previous experience running successful volunteer-based community programs
  • Practical knowledge of the sports disciplines of pistol and rifle shooting.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work remotely as a team player
  • Familiarity with shooting sports scoring and recording software programs.
  • Working knowledge of business software (Zoom, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Possibility of traveling up to 30%

This includes serving as the primary feed for organized and sanctioned shooting teams and organizations such as USA SHOOTING, TEAM USA, and the NGBs (NSSA, NSCA, ATA).
