The Louis Riel Institute fosters an understanding and appreciation of the culture, heritage and history of the Metis People. Math 10F - 1 Credit

This course is a full credit course in conjunction with a remedial overview for solving basic mathematical procedures. Students will continue on to learner basic algebra, trigonometry and geometry.

Computer Applications 20S - 1 Credit

This course offers exploration of the internet, application software and desktop publishing.
Science 20S - 1 Credit

Senior 2 Science is a full credit course that consists of four basic modules. They are ass follows; Dynamics of Ecosystems; Chemistry in Action; in motion and Weather Dynamics. Students will be introduced to the major sciences in this course such as: Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

ELA : Comprehensive Focus 30S - 1 credit

This is a literature - based course. Students are exposed to drama, short prose and poetry as well as novels.
Consumer Mathematics 30S - 1 Credit

This is a course that looks at topics around us everyday: Owning & Operating a Vehicle, Budgets, Measurement and calculating payroll and deductions are only some of the preparatory course for the 40S Consumer Mathematics Course.
Applied Mathematics 30S - 1 Credit

This course is usually a prerequisite for the 40S Applied Mathematics course. Some topics covered are: linear, relations, personal finance and measurements. Technology is a major piece of this course for example computers & graphic calculators are integrated throughout the units of this course.
Pre-Calculus Mathematics 30S - 1 Credit

Senior 3 Pre-Calculus Mathematics is designed for students who intend to study calculus and related mathematics as part of post-secondary education. The course comprises, primarily, a high-level study of theoretical mathematics with an emphasis on problem solving and mental mathematics, supported by cumulative exercises and testing. Students are required to learn mathematical concepts through practice and regular homework. This course is highly recommended before taking 40S Pre-Calculus Math.
Biology 30G - 1 Credit

The science of life, subjects covered include: chemistry of life, digestion and nutrition, gas exchange, circulation, blood immunity, excretion, controlling mechanisms, support and locomotion, reproduction and development. There is a focus on bioethics and biotechnology using critical thinking skills.
Physics 30S - 1 Credit

The units in this course are: linear kinematics, vectors, dynamics of motion, circular motion, momentum and impulse, work and energy. It is suggested that this course be taken as a prerequisite to Physics 40S for those interested in the Manitoba Hydro Program.
History 30S - 1 Credit

This is a Canadian history course, which emphasizes the following themes; immigration to Canada, English-French society, Canada's industrial development, government and politics, Western Canada, and Canada in world affairs. The course is meant to give students a well-rounded look at their historical past, and thus enable them to become better-informed citizens.
Geography 30G - 1 Credit

This course is mainly physical geography, which deals with fundamentals of geography and how the earth's elements have shaped man's environment. It also shows how man adjusts and influences the environment in which he lives.
Family Studies 30G - 1 Credit

Topics covered in this course include nurturing children; physical, emotional and social development; the value of play; children with special needs; guiding moral development and child's behavior; strengthening families; selecting childcare; and early childhood education.
Software Applications 30S - 1 Credit

This course is the first level of Microsoft Office. Students will become proficient in word processing using Microsoft Word. In addition, students are introduced to the presentation component of Microsoft Office using Power Point.

ELA: Comprehensive Focus 40S - 1 credit

Students engage with and compose texts that inform, persuade, analyze, foster understanding, reflect culture, express feelings, and bring enjoyment. The course addresses a variety of informal and formal discussions from free-writing, letters, improvised drama, journals, reports, formal presentations, documentaries, fiction, and poetry.
ELA: Transactional Focus 40S - 1 Credit

Transactional language forms include language that informs, directs, persuades, plans analyzes and explains. This course examines language media, advertising and business communications. Through a wide range of projects and activities, students learn to use and interpret a range of oral, print and other media texts to manage data/information effectively, and to plan and work collaboratively.

Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S - 1 Credit

Senior 4 Pre-Calculus Mathematics is designed for students who intend to study calculus and related mathematics as part of a post-secondary education. This course involves a high-level study of theoretical mathematics with topics including analytical geometry, rational functions, logarithms, circular functions, sinusoidal graphing, probability, progressions, and more. This course is accepted for most college and university programs for direct entrance into their course of study.
Physical Science 40G - 1 Credit

This course can be used to enter many science technology courses at the college level. Topics include sound, light, organic chemistry, geology, poisons, chemistry of food, and physics. Project work is done with each unit where students are encouraged to investigate topics they find interesting.
Physics 40S - 1 Credit

The core units of this course are waves, static electricity, fields and forces, basic electrical circuits, basic magnetism, electromagnetic induction and alternating current. An advance course in mathematics such as pre-calculus would be an asset for this course.
History 40S - 1 Credit

This course is a study of Western Civilization from the time of the ancient Greeks to the 20th century. Topics include Greek society and government, the Roman Republic and Empire, the Renaissance, the Reformations, revolutions and 20th century issues.
Geography 40G - 1 Credit

A world geography course that explores the relationship between man and his environment. Course topics include world population, food production and distribution, energy resources, industrialization and urbanization.
Psychology 41G - 1 Credit

This course investigates the fundamental concepts and principles of Psychology, including the nature of the scientific process, the biological basis of behavior, the effect of drugs on the mind and body, attention and memory, learning theories, developmental psychology, motivation, emotion and reason, intelligence, health psychology, social psychology, personality, and psychopathology.
World Issues 40S - 1 Credit

This course focuses on current issues. General Topics include Canada, the Third World, the Media, global organizations and Human Rights.
Law 40S - 1 Credit

This course is designed to introduce students to the Canadian legal system. Emphasis is placed on the history of our legal system, as well as on criminal and civil law. Activities include visits to the law courts, debates on current court cases and how the courts have dealt with Metis issues.
Family Studies 40G - 1 Credit

Topics covered in this course include personality, character development, communication and decision-making skills, relationship, single and married life, parenting, career and consumer education, middle and later years.
Metis Studies 40S - 1 Credit

This course allows for an exploration of Metis history, culture and heritage. It is offered for the full year with an emphasis on participation. Topics explored include language, music, storytelling, food preparation, Metis clothing, guest speakers from the Metis Community and many good debates!

This course exposes individuals to various career options. The course includes a development of personal portfolios, career options, academic qualifications, technological supports, definition and funding awareness of a full-time student.
